Join Megan in the Fight For Air! http://www.relentlessatx.com/blog.php?id=44273

This Saturday, Coach Megan Parsons will be racing up the Frost Bank tower for the 3rd year in a row at the American Lung Association's Annual Fight for Air Climb. Megan has finished in the top of her category and even took home 1st place overall for the women last year. This year, she has decided to kick it up a notch by joining the many Austin-area firefighters who race, by wearing full firefighter gear - minus the tank - as she races! The extra weight and bulk of the suit will be a new challenge that Megan is excited to take on.

Learn about Megan's personal connection to the fight against lung cancer and her reasons for participating in this event year after year in her post here.

SUPPORT OUR SHOWOUT!

Help Megan reach her fundraising goal of $300 by donating HERE. Donations will need to be received by this Friday! Megan will represent the CrossFit Central & Relentless community well on Saturday morning. We are proud of her for taking on this fun challenge in support of a cause that is near and dear to her heart! GO MEGAN!!

Roll Out! http://www.relentlessatx.com/blog.php?id=44244

The IT band/hip is one of our favorite areas to massage with our foam rollers. Hurts so good!

When it comes to fitness, nothing is more important than keeping you mobile, flexible, and injury-free. We recommend some form of soft-tissue care to all of our athletes, depending of your needs.

Trainers and coaches have know that hands-on soft tissue care techniques like massage and Active Release Therapy (ART) can work wonders on athletes. Although it is not a replacement for more intensive therapy, the foam roller came about as a tool that the masses could use to mimic this type of therapy, at a reasonable cost.

The foam roller is a cylindrical piece of dense foam that you use to massage muscles and tissue. There are many ways to use it to hit different parts of the body, but the idea is simple: Get a foam roller and use your bodyweight to apply pressure to sore spots.

Most foam rollers that you purchase at sporting goods stores (BettysportLuke’s Locker, and Trigger Point Therapy in Austin) come with instructions. For the most part they suggest that you use sweeping strokes to the long muscle groups like the calves, adductors, and quadriceps, and small directed force to areas like the TFL, hip rotators, mid-back, and glute medius.

We recommend that you use your foam roller daily, before you workout or run and again after your workout if you are sore. If you need more intensive therapy, we recommend that you seek the services of a massage therapist, ART specialist or Airrosti therapist. Your coach can provide you with a recommendation if you need one. Stay supple!

Ready to Move Up in KB Weight? http://www.relentlessatx.com/blog.php?id=44159

If you're looking to purchase a top-quality Relentless Training Systems-approved kettlebell, look no further than locally owned and operated FringeSport

FringeSport sells new Troy kettlebells to Relentless Athletes at a great per pound rate! Better than any other sporting goods store in town and because they are local, you don't pay shipping fees. You won't find a better deal on a quality kettlebell anywhere else. FringeSport was started by brothers Alex and Peter as a medling of two passions -  First, the undeniable desire for truly painful, going-to-be-sore-tomorrow workouts, and second, the obsession with building a better business. They know what being Relentless is all about!

If you're just beginning Relentless programs, or are ready to move up in weight, we highly recommend you look into purchasing from FringeSport. Our coaches have invited FringeSport owners Peter and Alex out to their classes to sell you kettlebells on the spot (they accept credit cards and cash). Ask your coach for more details on when Peter or Alex will be coming to your class! If you missed your chance to pick up a new bell at class, contact Peter and Alex via email here. They can bring your new kettlebell right to you, or give it to your coach.

In addition to competing as a team, Peter and Alex at FringeSport have graciously provided prizes for the top teams in today's Relentless Event Series Partner 5K and will be sponsoring the upcoming Garage Gym Throwdown on June 2. Thanks for being Relentless, guys!

From sedentary to a Relentless Athlete http://www.relentlessatx.com/blog.php?id=44129

Brian attends the MWF 6:30am Athletic Training class at O.Henry with Coach Heather Reed. He has only been in class a little over a month and is already seeing huge weight loss results and tapping back into the athlete he was 10 years ago.

Brian writes-- ...over the last 10 years or so I led a fairly sedentary lifestyle with minimal exercise and many poor dietary choices.  A few months ago I made a conscious decision that I was tired of living like that and with the help of my amazing wife, changed my diet completely which resulted in a pretty significant weight loss (about the size of the kettlebell I use in class!).  It was at this point that I decided it was time to "step-it-up" and get some serious exercise in my life - the elliptical at the YMCA wouldn't cut it anymore. I decided to try Relentless because I was looking for a challenge; something that would push me to be the athlete I used to beRead more.

Which Program is Right for You? http://www.relentlessatx.com/blog.php?id=44091

The Fulmore MS M/W 6:15pm Athletic Training Class pictured above

Relentless Training Systems offers two core programs for athletes: on-going Athletic Training Classes and 6-Week Boot Camp Challenges. Which is right for you? Here's a quick explanation of the two programs to help you decide:

Athletic Training Classes
Over 20 classes offered at various days/times around Austin. Athletic Training is formerly the only program offered by Relentless and are where most of our athletes train each week throughout the year. Classes meet 2 or 3 times per week, with up to 15 athletes per class. Programs are constantly varied, scalable to all fitness levels, and are suitable for both new and more elite athletes. With the help of your Coach, you decide how much weight to use and how hard to push yourself, making the workouts custom to your goals. Centrally programmed scored workouts provide a competitive environment across all classes. Equipment used includes Hyper Wear Sandbells and Kettlebells. New athletes are required to take a one-day elements session called "Combine" as a prerequisite to joining class. Enrollment is open and you can join programs at any time. REGISTER HERE

6-Week Boot Camp Challenges
Offered 5 times throughout the year, the 6-Week Boot Camp Challenges are perfect for the athlete looking for a jump-start to meeting their fitness goals. Boot Camps meet 3x/week and are offered at 3 locations around Austin, with up to 30 athletes per boot camp. The focus of these classes is on teaching proper technique for kettlebell movements and providing progressively more intense workouts, tailored to new athletes to our programs. Nutrition guidance and accountability is provided and participation in food journaling is expected. At the end of the Boot Camp Challenge, athletes are ready to join our on-going Athletic Training classes. Registration is open for the next Boot Camp Challenge, which starts on May 21.
